There have been a lot of SEO people and webmasters very worried with what is going on with Google recently.  I have been following the discussion going on in the google section at DP closely.  One thing is for sure and that is google has made a big change.  However, analyzing rank pulse there is little change in the 1000 keywords they track.  I strongly believe caryla at mcdar.net has a good theory.
For my sites (and clients) there has been only a few hit by them and those were sites down aggressively by my client in addition to the work I do. 

There are some who believe footer links are of no value - This is just false
There are some who believe adding links too fast will get your keywords tanked.  No proof of this as sites with really no new links also tanked.

So there is little to no good theories other then mcdars that make sense to me.  Stay tuned!
